Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day: February, 2013

Evening at a rink

The sun is climbing higher and higher every day. It seems that the spring will be here just in few days. The spring usually comes to Lithuania from the South West, together with a soft and wet sea wind. The smell of the sea is a herald of the spring.  Sometimes I can almost smell it.

It seems that birds are feeling the spring too. Their singing becomes more and more enthusiastic every day. However February is a real liar – it is still cold and snowy.  A rink on the lake ice is still in use. The only spring I have is a small spring in a vase.

February for me is month of waiting. Waiting for the sun, for the spring, for the sowing time. I am trying hard to resist a temptation to do the sowing early. Weathermen say that the spring will be late this year.  The first sowing is something like New Year feast for me – new start and new cycle. I hope I’ll do the first one next week.

As the winter is still here there is nothing very new in my gardening life. Orchids are still blooming as well as my poinsettias. It seems quite possible that their will stay until the Easter.

The only new blooms for the February were brought by kalanchoe. These soft peach shades are so lovely. It seems I got a thing about coral flowers. Coral or salmon are not very common colours in the garden compositions but I am seriously thinking about adding a little bit more of them in my garden. Well, I still have plenty of time to contemplate my gardening plans.

Beautiful colour for contemplation…

So, just few words and photos this time. But I am very curious about what is going on in other gardens. What did the summer brought to gardens of Australian gardeners? Did the spring break the winter in the European gardens? What’s new in America – American gardens are so diverse! Discover all the beautiful stories at Carols May Dream Gardens. Happy GBBD!

Ačiū, Rasa. Turbūt tos mažos žmonių figūrėlės kelia tokias asociacijas :)Pastebėjau, kad nuotraukos, kuriose yra žmonės, sukelia kitokius jausmus nei tas pats, bet tuščias peizažas.

Hello, lovely to see your houseplants, I love orchids too. It has been very cold here in London for weeks on end and spring is a bit late, but we are getting there! I always have something in flower in my garden, all year round, and snowdrops and hellebores are just coming into flower right now. Happy GBBD!

Hello Helene. It is nice to hear that the spring is not so far far away. Photos of hellebores in your and other blogs are very inspiring. I don’t have them in my garden, but I think I should find a place for them too. Best wishes and new blooms!
